Norm's Community Involvement in and around Saskatoon:

In 2008, Norm was given the task of determining the feasibility of acquiring city water (potable) for a small hamlet south of Saskatoon.

Due to the extended demand for potable water, Norm was instrumental in the creation and organization of the South Corman Park City Water Committee, to bring potable water to residents south of Saskatoon.

The committee partnered with the existing Dundurn Rural Water Utility, which is a small water utility which was serving water to a couple hundred rural residences in the Dundurn/Clavet area including the hamlets of Thode and Shields.

The new footprint for the DRWU Phase 3, is now over 800 square miles including numerous new acreage developments, hamlets and rural residents, the towns of Dundurn and Hanley and the Blackstrap Provincial Park. In total the new potable water line, when completed will service over 1800 homes.

In April 2009 the estimated project cost was over $ 23,000,000.  There was then some concern that it may not be afffordable for all subscribers. In an effort to ensure all subscribers would be able to participate in the project and obtain potable water, the committee made application for funding assistance to the Building Canada Program in April 2009.

On June 5th, 2009 we were very pleased to be awarded $ 14,145,424. This grant now makes potable water very affordable to all who registered prior to the grant as well there will be some capacity for late comers to acquire potable water at lower cost than had been estimated.

In November of 2011, most of the lines had been flushed & water started being delivered to many rural homes & villages near Saskatoon and in December 2011, to the towns of Hanley and Dundurn and most rural residents.

This project commenced in the summer of 2010 and is expected to be completed in 2012.
